Coach Settles on WPBK-FM

Coach Settles was a guest host of the Jammin' With Jayme morning show this morning on 102.9 WPBK-FM. Settles, along with host Jayme Phillips and Sports Director Tim Estes, talked about Lincoln County football non-stop for well over an hour.

It was a very informative and exciting show. Coach gave a good breakdown of the current state of the program. He broke them down class by class. Settles indicated that there was around 50 kids currently practicing with the team. While 50 players is still too small of a roster for a 5a school, there is some encouraging news about that number. 20 of those 50 players are incoming freshman. Settles mentioned that he was pleased with that number, but would like to see that grow to 30 or 35 freshman coming out each year. I've mentioned many times before, a school the size of Lincoln County should be dressing 75-80 kids.

Settles also talked about the coaching staff and the new additions. He raved about the new strength and conditioning coach and the program being installed. He talked about Daniel Foster taking over the offense, and acknowledged that stability was the key factor in making him the OC. The addition of Travis Leffew was discussed, and the great things he brings to the table along with his brother Bobby. I think it's fantastic having those two at LC, they are local football legends that had very successful careers all the way to the professional ranks.

Most of the discussions talked about the process of building this team into a program. And with the big freshman class coming out (hopefully the majority will stick with it) I think Coach Settles is well on his way. Just remember (even in sports) patience is a virtue.

The best news of all that was talked about is this. Opening kickoff is four weeks from Friday and the first live action is three weeks from Friday, when Anderson County will travel to Lincoln for a scrimmage (by the way, Anderson County is really, really good).

Great news here. I can't wait for the kickoff. Good show this morning. We have a great staff. I hope the kids will come out more as the Middle School programs improves.

Coach is in it for the long hall. Go big red

I can't wait for the season to start. Go Pats!!

Anonymous said...

Well I would say something so I will, Lincoln will win 8-9 games this year!! Go Pats!!! LOL!!!

Go Pats, I do have a question for someone who knows the answer . Why do the kids have to pay money now to play football? 100 dollars for donations? Plus have to sell spirit cards? Plus have to buy their shoes to play in( 100 dollars ) Can someone tell me why?

Paula said...

LOL I can't sell my spirit cards because I live on the south end of the county and no one down here seems to want to buy and because there aren't any things on there around Somerset and people down here hardly ever go to Danville. They have told me if there were just some things on there from Somerset they would purchase one. Maybe next year that should be something to think about? So I am SOL, I sold one to my aunt that goes to Danville some of the time, and the $100.00 bag we raised money from well I haven't gotten mine full yet and they were to help pay for the camp so your son can go to camp instead of you just paying for him to go. The booster club is always raising money for the boys for something and I don't complain nor should anyone since it's going to the boys for different things. Those boys work hard in practice everyday and we shouldn't complain when we are asked to help raise money for the the things the coaches want to get them. It's all about SUPPORT and I am in it for the long run and my son is just a freshmen! GO PATS!!!!

Anonymous said...

because the school only certain sport and football is not one and football bring in alot of money i am not saying other sports do not but football gets treated unfair by the school and board

Anonymous said...

Go Pats, why doesn't the board pay for the bags? As for camp, the Booster club should pay for that. I wonder if kids from The great Boyle Co have to pay for their shoes and buy their bags? ( camp ) How does the Basketball team get to go South to play for a week?

Anonymous said...

school but watch what you say because they will take your comment off you can only put down football players and coaches do not say anything about basketball it is against the rules yes boyle county supports ther football team unlike this tight a-- highschool thats why more kids dont play

Anonymous said...

You all need to educate yourself instead of sounding foolish. The school gives plenty to sports, title 9 regulates where and how the money is spent. Schools like Boyle County have boosters that give them plenty of big $$$ support. Every school can only pay so much out of its state funded budget to sports, and as bad of a school (education whise) as LCHS they need to pump all the money they can into EDUCATION...

As for paying for camp/bags. I seriously doubt that each player is required to pay 100 dollars. They have been asked to help out and pitch in if they can. In these tough economic times everyone has to become more resourceful, including the school system. There is nothing wrong with the families of players being asked to pitch in.

Anonymous said...

you must be talking about basketball because they get what they want when they need it so you my friend are the one that sounds foolish

Anonymous said...

amen i agree!!!!!

Anonymous said...

the girls basketball boosters fundraised for 7 months to get to florida. its just part of it.

Anonymous said...

^ exactly, they raised the money. all this newcomers to the sports scene are so funny.

Anonymous said...

i think only 10 parents payed for their son to go to camp last year and every player went, so where do you think that money came from?

Anonymous said...

basketball doesnt get everything they want! fund raise all year long! patriot pride dinner, park cars at the fair, shoot-a-thon, thats just to name a few, every sport is in the same boat. if the school board members would let the booster clubs have bingo, fundraising and money out of your own pocket would be eliminated!

Anonymous said...

what are the 8-9 wins lincoln will have this year? i only see maybe 2 games they can win.

Anonymous said...

You know it don't mater what you guys think this group of young men have got something to prove. And I hope we are 10-0. Just give them a break let them play and let the wins fall were they are going to fall. And most of you are bloging about this with kids on the team or other kids in the school, Just because they act like they don't have any seance don't mean our parents have to do so.

Anonymous said...

Well the anderson scrimmage has been rescheduled to the 14th.

Anonymous said...

as a former football booster club member this is cracking me up! we worked our tail off. there are far better fundraisers out there than parking cars at the fair. for your time spent and the people it takes to me it isn't worth it. the parks and rec are looking for someone to run the concessions this fall and i know this was offerd to the football boosters and they haven't gotten back to beth yet. to me this would be a great way to pick up an extra 5 or 6 hundred a week at least if ran right. the local buisn.always seemed to give more to football than any other sport because i have had one in fball and bball.

Anonymous said...

we are just waisting our time posting anything about the basketball team because you know who is in the click and it is not football look at our feild and you will see

Anonymous said...

so act like it help the booster club

BS said...

For the record this site gives football a ton of coverage. More than anyone else.

BS said...

Hey, the email address is located on the front page. Email me with ideas on how this site can help the booster club and I'll be more than happy to help you all.

Anonymous said...

come to the next meeting and introduce yourself and we will tell you

Anonymous said...

as far as bingo goes no one can tell parents were to work. get 8 or 10 parents together and go work bingo, pulltabs etc. and then donate the money yo the booster club as long as there is no players involved.

BS said...

Just send me what you want done (via email) to help the boosters, and I'll do it. This site in no way show favortism. We help out the football team more than you all think too. I will continue to delete anything that is negative about a student. Like I always do, no matter the sport.

If you have a problem with the site, email us.

Anonymous said...

especally basketball right because you let alot of negative comments get posted about football but not about basketball and thats the truth ask anybody in the county

Anonymous said...

some of you need to grow some skin. these guys do a good job on this site, especially sense its free. they help out alot, i live out of town and i wouldn't be able to get the scores of basketball and football without this site. I know the guys who run it and they are straight up people. if I were them i would get tired of the negative talk from the parents.

Anonymous said...

thats the whole idea get rid of all the negative comments if it is not possitive do not post it i do not care which sport it is

Anonymous said...

I LOVE THIS SITE. IT IS A GREAT WAY TO KEEP UP ON ALL THE SPORTS ACTION. i'M SURE IT WAS DESIGNED TO BE USED IN A POSSITIVE WAY. GUYS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK I REALLY APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DO.

Anonymous said...

That ain't how the real world works. Just because someone says makes a prediction that doesn't meet the expecation of a parent doesn't mean that it shouldn't be allow on this site. Freedom of Speech is a real thing, as long as a student athlete isn't being defamed, then nothing should be done.

If it hurts your feelings that someone says something about you disagree with, then don't read this blog.

Anonymous said...

well they need to leave all comments on here not certain ones thats what makes us mad all by the way if you dont like whats being said you stay off

Anonymous said...

freedom of speech!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

IT'S NOT FREEDOM OF SPEECH WHEN IT INVOLVES A MINOR

Anonymous said...

i agree and i do not agree with much if it is minor then do away with comments( but all not just certain ones) because thats whats happening you know it as well as me

Anonymous said...

u must be basketball

Anonymous said...

What are you all talking about? What posts have slandered a minor? What posts should be removed that haven't been removed? Please provide references and documentation.

Here's the bottom line. We started this site to support Lincoln County sports, period. Neither of us have kids playing at the high school, so we have nothing to gain from showing any favoritism to any certain sport. My question is this...how many of you would be on this site if you didn't have a kid playing? We don't and we're still here. We will help support the programs anyway we can. If you don't like this site, start your own. Or we can go back to making everyone sign in before they can comment. How do you want it?
Freedom of speech goes both ways, start your own site and you can say what you want. As far as OUR freedom goes, we can delete whatever we choose because this is OUR site. We normally only delete things that involve the names of kids. If you want us to delete everything negative, let us know. More than half of the posts would have to be deleted.
I'm ashamed that we can't come together as a community to support Lincoln County any better than this. Why would you want to attack this site and the people who created it when we do this for FREE???? I can honestly say I know we support whenever we can. Could I do more? Sure, but you'll never see me degrade the program.
My offer still stands, don't like it, go to another site. I'm sure there are lots of other free Lincoln County websites out there waiting for you.

i do not get on here alot because i do not own a computer but it turn my stomache when you see people arguing over silly stuff this is supposed to be a positive sight to post your comments and support our patriot team does not matter what sport if you all have true patriot pride stop the arguing and start supporting i know all of you have alot of pride start showing it please ! GO PATS

Anonymous said...

so you pick and choose certain ones thats our point because it your sight put down one sport but not another

"hazmit come to a middleschool pratice tell everybody who you are and me and my husband would like to talk to you face to face"

Now that is comical. you want to confront him face to face, for what. For providing the community with basically the only print media coverage of Lincoln County Sports. The IJ certainly doesn't do as much for the school as this web site.

Just ignore these middle schoolers...

Anonymous said...

How about Vance if someone don't have something good to say just get rid of it. That would help everyone out. I know for a fact coach Settles don't like all the bad stuff being said on this site.

If you tell a kid he is bad or no good all the time they will believe it and start acting like it.
But if you tell a kid you are the best and we expect you to be the best that kid will start believing and will do and be a lot better.
Because to the kids parents that kid is the best. I'd like to thank you guys for your support, We just think that this site should always put a positive light on our kids.

Anonymous said...

^please give references to all this negative talk. In my opinion, when people disagree about whether or not the team will win 8-9 games, or if someone says the defense needs to get better, etc. then that's ok. Everyone doesn't have to agree about everything all the time. As long as kids aren't getting called out, what is it hurting.

The only negative talk I ever see on here is people saying that basketball is king, etc. what does this site do for basketball that it doesn't do for football?

Anonymous said...

You are tell the kids that you don't believe in them when you say only one win or two wins. Or you say the D is bad or you point out the bad things of last year. Cone on you know what I am talking about.
I think you should make it so the person has to log in their name.
And you guys will have sons some day that will be in high school and you are setting your self up, if you know what I mean.
When its your kid you will not like it.

Anonymous said...

I'm really confused, the most negative things I have seen are the people talking about how negative the site it. And if they aren't bashing the site, they are bashing the site administrators.

Anonymous said...

why don't we just talk about football instead of this site? i don't get it???...what is the controversy all about? meet me at middle school practice so we can meet face to face??? are you kidding me? were you trying to sound tough? threatening? intimidating?

guess what: meet me at middle school practice = the best laugh i have had in a long time

Anonymous said...

Vance,
Thanks for this site!

To the site administrators - I like this site and I appreciate the time you all put into it. It's very classy except for some posters...oh well you can't win them all. You all are always positive and upbeat, each and every post talks good about Lincoln sports. Thanks from a loyal Patriot fan
