Welcome Coach Settles!!!!!!!!!

Patriot Sports talk would like to welcome Coach Mike Settles to PATRIOT Country. I have heard nothing but great things about Coach Settles and I am excited about the future of LINCOLN football. Mike Settles was selected as coach of the year in 2005. He is a great defensive mind and believes in hard work in the weight room. I also heard that he is recruiting some top level assistants to bring to the program as well, and it's not Stonebreaker or anyone mentioned earlier. Let's all get behind him and support him in any way we can. Thanks to all parties that made the hiring of Mike Settles possible.

Looks like a great hire, let's all get behind the school and welcome Coach Settles.

Sorry, Mudturtle. Hang in there, buddy.

Anonymous said...

Congrats Coach Settles. Hope you enjoy Lincoln County. And Welcome home Debbie. This is a great hire for the school and the community.

Anonymous said...

A big thanks to all who had a part in making this happen. I know there where a lot of people behind the scenes who played a big part in getting Coach Settles to LC. I think he is a great hire.

Anonymous said...

I an anxious to see who he fills his staff with. I have already heard some familiar and experienced names being mentioned. Some with LC ties and some with none. Time will tell.

Anonymous said...

I have also heard some "old school" LC names being mentioned. It would be kinda cool to see some of the old "BIG L" tradition on the sideline to go along with the new regime!!

Anonymous said...

i dont care as much about who they are as i want them to want to be part of the program.
think about it, Jackson in BBall,
Masten in Baseball, and he is a very bright young coach, Story in Girls BBall, the success we have had in golf this fall. Add one of the best young Football coaches. Things are really looking up for LCHS sports.

hazmit said...

Things are moving in the right direction, let's keep it going. GO PATRIOTS.

Anonymous said...

Hazmit.... Check your email, I have inside info on an assistant already being considered.

hazmit said...

Thanks for the info ckysports, haven't heard that until now.... Current names on the radar for assistants: Stonebreaker, Bobby Leffew, Darren Yaden

whiteskill said...

Maybe Bobby boo-shay Leffew will show Lincoln players how to get a 5th year of eligibility.

Anonymous said...

or an AD could learn to do that...example nathan bustle. Also, Darren Yaden i hope not.

Anonymous said...

I think HIGH SCHOOL kids getting extra elgibility is stupid. You go to high school to learn, no get red shirted in football.

Anonymous said...

yeah what if your COLLEGE EDUCATION FOR FREE DEPENDS ON IT i.e Leffew

Anonymous said...

Way to go ADMIN! U don't suck so bad now...

white barn said...

Da whole school sucks fo real

Anonymous said...

I don't think the AD's job is to run around getting kids an extra year of eligibility.

If Bustle wanted another year (which I don't think he did), his parents and the AD needed to have a meeting about it. The AD doesn't need to go to Mike Bustle and say "your son got injured, lets get him another year of eligiblity so our football team will be better next year."

You guys need to get a life.

white barn said...

Oh yeah, and fo da one wining bout getten a free education. I went to ITT tech, on line. they don't take no athletic schollies.

Cause I will dunk on yo head

BS said...

Let's quit bashing kids and players. This thread is to show support for Coach Settles.

Anonymous said...

yeah lets ask mike bustle about that...see how he feels. And i'm not saying anything else about it b/c this is wasting thread space..but the the AD has to get the info to submit to KHSAA. NEWAY LETS GO SETTLES

Anonymous said...

Would love to see some of you LC Admin. Koolaid drinkers ask Mike Bustle how well the LC AD did his job. It was not about Bustle being injuried,he missed a year and a half because he had a cancer. Came real close to not regaining any eligiblity. With all that Nath. went through he deserved better than he got from the Admin.at LC.

Anonymous said...

I find it funny that some on here are talking about assistant coaching hires when it has only been about a month that LC had no teaching positions for anymore football coaches. I guess only time will tell if the Admin. is serious, but in my experence a zebra can not change its strips.

Anonymous said...

Are you honestly saying that Mike wanted his son to get more eligibility. I would like to think not, but a 5th year senior in high school would have been fun.

The question you should be asking is what French was doing with Bustle still in the game with 2 minutes left up 21 points.

Anonymous said...

Not at all about the injury. He was sick for a year and a half, and not in school. Had problems getting eligibility to play this past year, ask Mike I am sure he will tell you.

Anonymous said...

But he got to play, so the AD must have done his job. Nothing with the KHSAA is easy. They are looney in Frankfort

Anonymous said...

Believe what you want about the AD doing his job. You should ask Mike what he thinks about who did what.

Anonymous said...

For those who want to know what really happened! During Nathan's soph. year he was diagnosed with cancer and had to have a bone marrow transplant. He missed a year and a half of football. During his recovery, steps were taken to notify the school that he would be interested in having an extra year of eligibility. Plans were made for him to return to school as a junior. During summer practice we were notified that he had been denied the extra year. We worked to get all of the papers in to the AD so that the case could be reviewed. We were told that he had been denied for the second time. We contacted a lawyer and discovered that he was not only denied the extra year but that he was ineligible to play his senior year as well. We had to decide if we wanted to fight the decision or work to ensure that he could play his senior year. We also learned that we needed to have three letters in order for Nathan to be considered for the extra year: a letter from the Ad, a letter from the principal, and a letter from the superintendent. The superintendent contacted us the day after Nathan's story was on the news and told us that she didn't know he was trying to gain an extra year until she saw it on the news. She then asked us what we wanted to do. We decided to play it safe and ensure he could play his senior year. Nathan had to complete two credits in two weeks so that he would be a senior. He went to school for most of the day and then went to practice. When he came home from practice he worked on his credits until late at night. He is an exceptional young man and we are very proud of him and his accomplishments. We have been blessed. In the fourth game of his senior year, Nathan had his kneecap broken and had to miss the rest of the season. Why was he in the game? Because another player had a problem with their helmet and Coach French needed someone to go into the game. Nathan didn’t think twice about going onto the field. He was where he had wanted to be for a long time. He is very thankful for the time that he was able to play. Thanks to all that have supported him through all he has been through.

Thanks Mike for clearing up the story...Thank God that he is healthy now. I wish the best for Nathan and his family. I went through the same thing with my son and anyone who comes through that is a strong individual. I think the KHSAA is a weird animal, sounds like there was a breakdown in communication at some point. It's unfortunate if there were things that could have been done to grant his eligibility. I wish things would have worked out differently. I know that Nathan is a great guy and I know he was where he wanted to be, on the football field. I hope no player ever has to go through that again, but if it does maybe we learned what or what not to do from Nathan's case.
As far as the hiring of assistants, don't we have coaching positions open since Vaught and French left? Teaching positions hopefully can be filled at the end of the year when people leave or retire.
I have complete confidence in Coach Settles, so I trust he will make the right choices for his assistants. Whatever choices he makes will be what he feels is the best choice for the program, and we simply need to support that. Go Pats!!!!

BS said...

Thanks for explaining your situation. I think all Lincoln fans are also Nathan Bustle fans. Nathan has accomphished much more with his young life than most will ever accomplish.

He has defeated much more than opponets on a football field.

BS said...

The ability for you anonymous people to continually bash Lincoln County amazes me. You are the same people who question the ability of the school to land another big name coach.

You anonymous people who want to continue to bash need to get your Montgomery Gentry t-shirts on and move on over to title town.

It's time to move on and show support for Coach Settles.

white barn said...

You all will be impressed with Mike Settles. He will bring something you all badly need in Stanford. A little thing called stability. I have not been around there in years, but I will HAVE to come see a game now. I think alot of Mike Settles.

hazmit said...

Word is that Settles will be announced at one of the district tournament games. I know there is an offer on the table from Farris Marcum to pick Settles up in Bullitt County in a limo, bring him down to the game, and drive him home. If anyone has any contact with any school officials let's make this happen. It will be like we're introducing Joe Paterno!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Guys - William Warfield with Central Kentucky Sports Magazine. You know we cover 30 high schools, EKU, UK, The Legends, and The Horsemen. I can't understand why some of you continue to want better coaches when you already have 2 of the best coaches in all the state in Settles, and Jackson. I wish that I knew enough bout your girls coach because he is great to. Your Farm system 5th -8th grade is no doubt the very best in all the state in basketball. I truly respect Jeff Jackson and I have statred a great relationship with my interest in your sports with him and new coach Settles. I would not be surprized if Lincoln County wins a state champioship in the next 4 years with both football and basketball. You guys think you have it rough and I am here to tell you because I see the other schools and their programs, You guys have the best of the best and I would stand up to anyone who disagrees with me. Our original plan was to end our coverage area in Boyle and Garrard County and not even cover your town. I was not educated on your tradition and great people surrounding your program. I was at a Garrard County vs. West jessamine game when I seen this man truly studying West Jessamine and their style of play. That man was Coach Jeff Jackson. I started a conversation withn his very wife and they truly are the reason we picked up your area. Looking back on it, Your town and your program I would not pass up or trade for any other school to cover. The story that I wrote on Jackson and your seniors will hopefully make many realize that Coach Jackson is the very best coach in the state. Settles is a class act to and he and I are working out a interview very soon to play to you fans. We have spoken a lot via email and he will lead your football program to new heights. With the hire of Randy Woods at West Jessamine last week, Steve Stonebreaker over in Garrard County will likely be one of your assistants.

One more thing... Someone said that we get our leads on Lincoln County from this forum. You guys have assisted in our results but we have made official contact with coaches and sources to make sure the news were official. I am a big fan of your web site and I think it will serve your program a lot of good.

Thanks William, the true Lincoln fans appreciate what your site and magazine are doing. There's always going to be negativity, but overall we're happy with what you doing and will continue to support your efforts.
As for you White barn....I'm glad to see that you have stopped with the negative crap, so now work on your grammar. Several people have contacted me to delete all of your comments and I am very close, so keep on point homey.

Anonymous said...

Stonebraker did not even apply for the West Jessamine job and he will not be going to help at LC. This is straight from the horses mouth. Stonebraker has nothing against LC, but just has some other offers as an assistant and wants to be an assistant if he stays around here to be able to help out his family who are having some health problems. Now, Cooper who has been at Garrard may be a possibility, but Stonebraker is not.

Anonymous said...

I don't think we want Cooper

BS said...

I honestly do not feel Stoney was/is an option. I for sure don't think Cooper would be.

Anonymous said...

Darren Yaden?

Anonymous said...

Seriously. Darren Yaden???

BS said...

I have heard rumors that Yaden will be running the offensive.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure Settles will get who he is most comfortable with. Like him or not Yaden wouldn't be going anywhere and his offense did use to put up a lot of points.

As mentioned from the poster above, he would also bring some stability that is badly needed right now.

Anonymous said...

Stony going to Boyle County???

Anonymous said...

All Lincoln fans will have to go
shopping if Settles changes from
the Old Enlgish L back to the
LC.

Anonymous said...

Just happen to notice who was lifting and who was not. Guys that
need to be in the weight room, you
are cheating yourself & the team.

BS said...

Makes since, Stoney going to BC. Yaden did score a lot of points when he called the plays. He had a lot of good offensive players then too.

Anonymous said...

I think we should get the band man back. Coach E would do a great job, since he did so great when he was head coach!

Anonymous said...

I would love the old "L" back. I could care less who coaches if we could get it back.

Anonymous said...

There is no way they would hire E back. If they hire him, it would be because he already has a job at LC.

Anonymous said...

I am excited to see what Settles does at Lincoln. We have a great group of players on this Lincoln team. It is going to be exciting! Good luck Coach Settles.

Anonymous said...

For the French and Vaught are gone so we have teaching postions crowd. WRONG. French retired a year ago, and Vaught never taught. Was working for PBK. And if Stoney wants to stay closer to home. What could be closer than the town he lives in, Stanford? Also, Nathan Bustle is a great example. I hope my kids are as strong as him when they grow up. Mike and Tammy, you deserve lots of credit. You have truly raised two quality children, and after I heard Nikki speak at Relay for Life a couple of years ago, I was glad that you are right here in Lincoln County.
Everyone on here needs to quit complaining and cheer for Nathan, and be supportive of Settles and the program.

BS said...

Steven French was who he was referring too. There will not be a problem with Settles getting the coaches he wants. Not an issue.

Anonymous said...

speaking of Steven, why is he still helping coach baseball. we need to cut that tie. he will probably be trying to recruit while he is over here.

BS said...

That is odd, you would think he would want to go on over to title town. Must feel LOYAL to Lincoln.

Anonymous said...

I have been in the weight room this year and I can see some of the seniors putting everything they have into their lifting; Marcum, Edwards, Conaster, Harris, Camel, and a couple others and these are the kids that will lead our team to whatever success we have this year and I have big hopes for these players, but I also look around and see underclassmen and others goofing off and not taking their lifting seriously. I also don't see a few players that need to be there ; Spicer, Holcome, etc. Its about time these players come out and start taking lifting seriously because the offseason is where you win close games during the season and if we want our program at the top where it needs to be we need to make sure that lifting is taken seriously.

Anonymous said...

Steven will surely go with his father. He is a GREAT coach and super person! As for Steven leaving the football coaching staff, I hope that Coach E is not an addition!!!

Anonymous said...

Steven French & Jeremy Vaught have already been named as leaving for BC. I don't really know why the baseball coaches would want to keep him around. I know he is their friend, but they have 4 or 5 young guys helping them already. I doubt they need him.

hazmit said...

Regarding the post about me saying there were positions available....I clearly said 2 assistant coaching positions only at this time due to Vaught and (steven) French leaving. Pretty sure that's correct. Coaching positions and teaching positions are two different things. After my first statement I said that hopefully there will be teaching positions available at the end of the year. Didn't think I was misleading anyone about any made up positions???
Again I'll say that I am confident Settles will make the correct choices for his assistants. I will support his decision and his assistants whether it was my pick or not. We all should do that and not attack former Lincoln coaches who obviously still care about the program.
I agree with the last two statements in that post. People on here need to be supportive of Bustle and Coach Settles. Pretty sure I've always done that as well.

Anonymous said...

What about Robbie Lucas?

Anonymous said...

I'm sure Settles has ties across the state and a I know he has a few in this area. I wouldn't be surprised to see him fill his positions with a mix of local and not so local coaches. I could see how both could help in his his transition.

Whoever he ends up with we need to support 100%. Negativity does nobody any good except the teams we will be playing.

kings mountain man said...

How many state titles has Settles won. According to you all Its like 18. What do the people of Stanford want? When was the last time LC was in the state finals? How was their coach? I predict that LC will never win a state title under Settles and it has nothing to do with him. Will somebody in Standing Fort please be realistic. There are intelligent people on this blog because I know them personally. Does settles know something about Highlands that others dont? I want to see them do as well as anybody else. The facts are this. As big as the school has become means more comp. Deer huntin interfers with football. Always has always will. Invest in your kids individually, dont expect for Stanford to take them very far. Was "The Village" by M Night filmed in Stanford?

Anonymous said...

Look, KMM, I think I speak for everyone on here when I say... STAY IN D-TOWN!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Kings Mt. Man, are you an Admiral?

Anonymous said...

sound like kings mt. man let deer hunting interfere with his football, no wonder you are a loser, you are the type person that needs to get out of this county and go somewhere like iraq or cuba and speak your worthless mind, you are the type person that gives everything a bad name, nothing will ever please you

whiteskill said...

Quit hating on the Mountain Man, you people dog out anybody that don't have the same views as you. As for underclassmen goofing off or not working out in the weight room, the seniors should be kicking their butts and being leaders. I know when I was a freshman, I was scared to death to make any senior mad. You'd get your teeth kicked out of your head back then though, it was hardcore!!!!! Even though, there should be assistant coaches who opened the weight room, and they should be monitoring the kids better than that. Who's running the weightlifting???? I'll go up there and light some fires under some people's butts!!!!!!

BS said...

Sounds like Kings Mountain man needs to start a rifle team at LC

Anonymous said...

Just heard while out in town the new coaches filling the assistant positions are Yaden and Estes.

Anonymous said...

I am sure that Coach Settles will not settle for those two

Anonymous said...

estes/yaden, oh know. not again

I thought Coach E was going to help with the middle school program. I think that will be great, a former head coach being willing to help the program like that.

Anonymous said...

He is going to help or hurt the middle school program.

Anonymous said...

I don't think Estes did anything as a head coach, so why should it be great for him to work the middle school. If a bird has never flown could they teach another bird to fly? How can someone who never played football on any level, help students learn or excel at football.

BS said...

There have been many good coaches not to play the game. Bill Billahood at New England, Charlie Weis (if you want to call him good)etc.

Estes is an ambassador for the school and program. His enthusiasm alone will help.

Anonymous said...

Estes wasted more talent on the HS level than any other coach ever at LC in my opinion. I don't think he has any place in the LC football program except for being a fan. I don't even think he should call the games on the radio.

Anonymous said...

You guys are crazy and showing how little you know if you think Coach E won't help the middle school. Do you know what the middle school record has been over the last few years... That was one of coach Frech's problems. That the middle school football teams sucked every year for the past 5. Coach Estes can only improve on it.

Anonymous said...

From what I have seen of the little league program, there are some good football players coming up. Lets hope that he doesn't waste that talent.

kitchenutensil said...

For all the "real men" on here talking about Tim and Darren, I wonder what any of you have ever done that will benefit the kids of Lincoln County? Come on, if you want to tear everyone else down, go ahead and give your name and explain to everyone what you have done or do daily, as both of them do, that will ever improve the lives of any young men in this county. For anyone to think that Tim would have any effect but positive on the middle or high school program shows nothing but ignorance. Yeah, you might have played some little league or maybe even HS football (wow), but you need to focus on your janitors position. I hear they're out of toilet paper in the women's restroom. You better go take care of that.

Anonymous said...

I know E personally, he has no desire to coach at any level again. It has never even been a thought.

Why do some people get such a thrill posting things that are completely untrue??

Anonymous said...

Both of those guys coached at LC throughout the entire 1990's which just happens to be the most successful period in the programs history.

I don't see that as such a bad thing.

Anonymous said...

I agree with the above post. I hate that this has became a thread to "dis" former coaches. Instead we should be celebrating the hiring of a new coach! All six or seven of the former coaches named on this thread have been great coaches and are great people.

Anonymous said...

Any of the prior coaches and assistant coaches would be welcomed back as an assistant to the new coach. I hope he does look at all his options closely. There are some great coaches available right now to help.

Anonymous said...

Lets just wait an see what Settles does. He has 3 great coached staying with the LC program. Coach Wilks and Coach Foster are running the weigth program. Settles will find the other coaches he needs with out any problems.
GO LINCOLN

Anonymous said...

Coach Settles is a great person. He is going to meet with the Coaches still here on Saturday. Word on the street is that Coach Sims will be ask to leave. I think Coach Settles should not ask any of the coaches to leave they are great football coaches, they know the kids. Coach Wilks has been here for around 12 years he has been very faithful to LC, on top of he has a 12 year old coming up that is going to be a great ball player both on the field and on the court. Coach Foster has been here several years and he an Coach Wilks are a great team together!

Anonymous said...

Dear Coach Settles:
If you have been reading this site. STOP because the majority of people with something to say on here are idiots. They may have a Pee-Wee championship banner over their mantle. But that is because they got all of their step kids and cousins on the team. What it is hard to see on here is that we are glad you are here.
Best of Luck

This just in Cooper update: no need to worry about him coming to LCHS saw him Guadalahara lastnight he said that he was contacted my Joker Phillips about being the assistant GIT BACK COACH at UK. He said he was seriously thinking about it unless he got a better offer. Best of Luck to Coach Cooper

Anonymous said...

I had not heard that about Cooper I really thought he wanted to be here at LCHS. He will do a great job where ever he ends up

BS said...

I think 99.9% of Lincoln County is thrilled to have Coach Settles here. There is a lot of "speculating" and "negativity" about the potential of bringing back some old LC coaches. We, as fans, don't even know if any of this is true. No matter what, you have to trust the new coach and his ability to produce a great staff.

I don't think it is hard to see the excitement for Settles on the blog. Look at how many people have had something positive to say.

guru said...

Exactly, just focus on the posts that have some common since talk in them. Don't concern yourself with the rest.

hazmit said...

^^Amen^^ Settles is bound to see the potential and exitement this county is capable of or he would not have made a lifelong decision. Nobody mentions the fact that we had a top tier coach who was wanted by others choose Lincoln FOREVER. He knew by coming to Lincoln that his wife would never want to leave. That's why it was such a hard decision. That's a huge promise to this County and we should all support him and thank him every way we can. Honestly, if there were not people or fans who cared about this program this website wouldn't exist. GO PATRIOTS.

Anonymous said...

has anyone talked to any of the remaining coaches to see how they are feeling about all of this.

I KNOW THAT COACH WILKS WAS ON THE INTERVEIW PANEL AN THAT HE WAS VERY VERY IMPRESSED WITH COACH SETTLES. I ALSO TALKED WITH HIM SEVERAL DAYS AGO AN HE SIAD THAT SETTLES IS A GREAT FIT FOR LINCOLN FOOTBALL. SO SEEMS THAT COACH WILKS IS A MIKE SETTLES FAN.

Anonymous said...

Is Coach Wilks from Lincoln? I know he has been of staff for several years but was not sure where he is from and how we ended up with him.

Anonymous said...

Coach Wilks is from Southern Ohio. He was a stand out football player from there. He went on to play at the Universtiy of Kentucky where he started for 5 years. He has great love and knowledge of the game. He started at lincoln with Tim Estes. He came to Lincoln because his wife is from here. He has a son who i have not seen play but i was told my others that will be a great player of the game of football. I think that he will be a 7th grader next year.
