Can the Lincoln County Patriots win a State Championship???

What does everyone think? I think it should be our goal in every sport. What does it take to get to that level? Can Lincoln get there? I believe it takes a special combination all aspects of the game coming together in the same year. I truly believe Lincoln has had years in the past where they were better than the eventual state champion in their respected class, but one of the aspects fell apart. For example, Bell County won the 3A state championship in 1991, and Lincoln County smashed them in scrimmages at camp that same year. So does that make Lincoln County the State Champion, no, because they didn't put the whole year together. One of the wheels fell off that kept them from making it.
Here are my thoughts on what it takes to make it: 1. Talent, you have to have it. 2. Great coaching, talent won't matter if it's not focused. 3. Discipline, have to stay focused on and off the field throughout the year. 4. Committment, from all parties involved. 5. Easy path in the playoffs, this matters because two top notch teams could beat each other up before you get to them, you only have to battle one. 6. Leadership, someone has to step up and carry the torch. 7. Heart and Desire, without a doubt, uncontrollable and most neccessary, it must come from within.

the school might be able to win a FFA state championship or 4h club

Do you get a ring for winning the FFA state championship? or maybe a huge championship belt buckle?

haha, they got talent, but we will just have to see when they play in rupp playing outside the 12th because its generally the worst region in the state, however, they are by far the best in this region.

We have the best case draw with who we will play in the state. And in the second game. If we can win this region, we have a real shot at being in the final four... Then anything can happen.

What about football???? Will we ever win one with the pigskin, leather, or whatever they're making those ugly brown balls with now.

I think we have a shot in Basketball, but we will have to make a blistering run. I feel like we have let up a little here at the end of the regular season, so I hope that means we are getting ready to explode.

12th drew the 8th. 8th is very weak this year. Anderson is the favorite. I think LC could handle them no prob.

Anyone can argue about which region is the worst or best, but I would say we can look at Lincoln's record outside the region or against ranked opponents. I don't think it is too bad.

Hard to compare between regions. Lincoln beat Mad Cent, and played with Bryan Station, but can we beat Scott County? Mad Central went to Mason Co and only lost by a few the week after we destroyed them. does that mean we can play with Mason Co?
We can win a state championship in some sports. Never know, maybe we have a tennis player or golfer pull this feat off. Believe that is more likely than team sport because it is easier to find one great player in a given year than it is to find 5 or 9 or 11.
but we also have a shot in team sports. Harrison Co has done it in baseball, and our makeup as a county is similar to them. Marion Co did it in basketball some years ago, and there was another team in West KY that did it right after Marion that was not a city or big county team.
Get our LL programs to focus on fundamentals and not on winning and it becomes a lot easier. I want to hang a banner at the high school, and not in the Waynesburg, Highland or C.O. gym. I do believe that our soccer LL program is ran better than the other LL programs from top to bottom, so maybe we have a shot there in the coming years. Of course that would be a let down for some because football and basketball are all that matter, which is another problem for our county.

we can win a state champ in sports. we need all of the things you mention but we also need coaches at all levels that can teach the kids what they need to know at that age. Great coach at HS will not get it done if he is teaching what the kid should know in 7th grade

I don't care what sport a state championship comes in. We just need to know what it feels like to win one, knowing the road is easier if you've traveled there before. I think it was easier for the football team to make it back to state in '93 because they were freshmen on the '90 team, they knew how hard they had to work. We seem to have forgotten that, and I hope the new coach will bring that pride back stronger than ever.
I agree that coaching needs to improve on all levels. We have to worry about teaching the kids fundamentals and preparing our kids for the high school, not worrying about hanging a banner in your basement that says "2nd grade champions at whatever elementary school".

Anonymous said...

we need coaches that teach the kids fundamentals and how to win. Loosers in life will be loosers as coaches. simple fact

A real loser in life spells loser as "looser"

Soccer??

i did not know Lincoln had a soccer program.

i disagree. football, basketball and baseball are all that matter.

hey hazmit, can we get some scoops on the girls games too......... aren't they pretty high up in the region??

BS said...

The girls are currently third in the region. They have a great shot at getting to WKU. They are really young, and IMHO have the best chance of any program in the county to win a state championship in the next three years.

They have a great coach in Don Story. I would of liked to see what he could of done with all the talent the program had in the 90's and early 00's.

the person who did not know we had a soccer program is the type of limited thinking that puts our "SPORTS" program to shame. these "i dont know anything about it so it must be for pansies" types are the idiots that destroy all programs even the ones they love. Bet he was a great player in his own mind.

There is a reason the rest of the world calls soccer football. We figured a better version of the game and we dominate at it. We threw their version in the dumpster.

How many times can they (media) try to force soccer on a national level before the get the hint. Americans suck at the game and don't like it.

We like real football, the one WE invented.

Anonymous said...

I love american football, but if you look at the little league soccer sign ups in Lincoln Co., you may open your eyes to what sport the younger generation is turning to.

Anonymous said...

yeah I hate soccer, but it is a growing sport in this country, at urban areas its pretty huge and its just now making it down to rural places.

its because rednecks don't like not being able to use their hands.

I have played many sports as a LLger and i know they only care about the people on the playing area not about what young kid may be sitting on the bench. However, winning the state championship in anything im going with tennis. Its the only sport that i do not play but i belive in this team. no offense to the basketball team or any other team, just look at the competion.

hazmit said...

Is David Horseman the tennis coach? I don't follow tennis but wish them success. Horseman is a great guy but he stinks at texas hold 'em!!!!

kings mountain man said...

They can win one in football as long as they dont hire people who cant produce, such as Larry Phillips, and this new guy. Jaggers was the best we had and you assholes ran him out.

Anonymous said...

LC went as far as they could have without winning a title under both Phillips(90') and Jaggers(93'). I hope the new coach can have that kind of production year in and year out.

Anonymous said...

Kings Mtn man has Jaggers up his ass. Is this the way everybody on Robertstown Road feels?

whiteskill said...

This never came out or made the interior journal, but Marty kicked me in the sack one day in practice. He is a mean man.

kings mountain man said...

Whiteskill you probably deserved it. I know I got ciked in the rear during practice and I deserved it. Face it people most of you didn't like jaggers because he didnt fit in with the hall of shame out at the country club. That is a real classy bunch out there.

kings mountain man said...

I hate to bust the bubble, but the Ralston kid will be exposed as slow and not very athletic win they actully play somebody.

Anonymous said...

Ralston is slow, no bubble bursting here. That's why he just stands in the corner. You don't have to be fast when you can shoot like that. Drain-o!!

hazmit said...

Kings mountain man you're borderline on getting kicked out of this website like you did the country club. Ralston has played great defense this year and while maybe a little slow, I would still want him in the game to knock down the 3. He's deadly from long range.
Don't be jealous of Ralston because you can't shoot like him.

kitchenutensil said...

Kings Mtn is a great place full of great people, but this just shows you that there are idiots everywhere, even Kings Mtn

hazmit said...

Kings Mountain Man you are way off track, attacking the country club, attacking Ralston, defending Jaggers. Come down from the mountain and visit the club, watch Ralston shoot, and watch some film on Larry Phillips. Do your homework before you make stupid comments. We are talking about state championships on here, what are you doing to help out the cause???

Anonymous said...

He is doing nothing... Just stirring the pot... Stop answering his posts.

BS said...

Just because your kid got cut doesn't mean you have to take it out on others.

You have had a grudge against the country clud every since they closed down sunny side.

Anonymous said...

for everyone bragging about football and putting down soccer, why dont you try to play a sport without pads and helmets? cause you are a bunch of wussies who need "protection". KM man has played alot without a helmet. By the way, Jaggers is just like Tubby Smith, can only win with someone else's players.
with or without Horseman (or PonyBOY) it is easier to win in a sport that only needs one great player, so chalk me up for golf or tennis.

BS said...

Take it easy on the Outsiders references.

hazmit said...

I'm with you on golf and tennis...even though I can't recall any golfers that we've had come out of Lincoln except Lindsay Rankin and Jordan Hogue. Did we have a golf program in the 90's?

Anonymous said...

My vote would go for golf too.
Keith Withrow played in the state tourney his soph. or junior year. I don't think he finished real well though.

Anonymous said...

Did we have a golf program in the 90's? Ask Todd Faulkner. He was da man in 1987 (he's still da man now)

whiteskill said...

Todd Falkner, wasn't he a teacher? I bet he looked like Leif Garrett on the golf course with his feathered hair and unlaced eastlands with no socks. I think they disbanded the golf team because of him, kind of like the duke lacrosse team witch-hunt.

I dont know if the patriots ran into some serious talent if they could stop it..which I dont know whos the best they've faced this year. But if they had to play up against Scotty Hopson or Jon Hood = Done, no one on this team could guard either one. Hopson is hands down Mr. Basketball.

Anonymous said...

soccer is for people who are to unskilled or cordinated to play a real sport. That is why America doesn't like it, we play more advanced sports like football.

Kings moutain man don't like soccer, heck Kings Mountain ain't ever produced a soccer player.

BS said...

Guard Hopson or Hood?? Heck, they nearly knocked off Mack, and I consider him to be on the same level as those two.

I would not be so sure on the Mr. basketball gurantee either. Yes, Hopson was named an McDonalds All American but Miller is going to UK. That will play a factor.

Anonymous said...

Dunbar proved our weakness. Athleticism. We can beat athletic teams that arent great at basketball. We can beat great basketball teams if they arent athletic. but we have to play our absolute best to beat an athletic team that is also good at basketball. Not having a true center really hurts. But it can be overcome. Remember Clay county of the '80s

kings mountain man said...

Whoever made the last comment might be the dumberst basketball historian of all time . The "True Center" for the mighty Manchester Tigers was a man by the name of Chadwell. He was the yin to Farmers yang. The Rance Beard of Eastern Ky if you will. A redneck with major skills. If you ever lived in Standing Fort and saw the pickup games at the blacktop courts beside the tennis courts, what you saw was Rance Beard make George Miller look Stupid playing the low block. All fact, no BS here. Ask around.

What does KMM have against Stanford... This isn't about Stanford. It is about Lincoln County

Come on Kings Mountain man, you callin somebody out for being dumb and can't even spell it right!!!! If Casey County players start getting pub on this site I will urinate on the administrator. Forget Crazy County....
