Garrard wins National Championship

Garrard County beat Lincoln tonight 56-37 to bring home their first national championship. At least I think it was the national championship, because they were fired up like it was the biggest game of their lives. Seriously, it was a terrible performance all around and Garrard played with intensity to take Lincoln out of their game. We got beat on back door cuts all game and couldn't connect on the three ball. Lincoln should use this as motivation for the rest of the season. I look forward to the re-match in February back in Patriot Arena.
Although it has nothing to do with sports, David Hacker was ejected from the game and arrested. Just my opinion but the school board and the administration should ban him from any future sporting event. Good evening and good night.

That was one of the worse LC games I've ever seen. No energy, no pride. It was hard to watch. I would guess the team shot less than 20% from the floor.

Hopefully this will wake the Pats up, a loss to Danville and Garrard in the same year just don't seem right.

i don't think the loss is from a lack of pride, every dog has its day!!!!!! you'll remember 2 years ago boyle kicked our butts on our floor and we came back and won the region, sometimes a loss is good.

This isn't two years ago. That was an embarassing loss. I'm not saying they can't/won't beat them at home, but that still doesn't make up for tonights titanic struggle.

By the way, Boyle beat LC by 9 at LC and by 1 at Garrard, for the District Championship, two years ago. Those games/teams are no comparison.

regular season game at home with boyle was only by 9?

any time you lose to boyle its a butt kicking(even if its only 2 pts)

Yes, only by 9, and that game tonight equaled no pride. Those boys need to step it up when we play at Lincoln!

That LC/BC games that year were classic games between two very good teams, played at a very high level. The opposite of tonight.

Can you say the team was not ready to play... It falls on Coach Jackson's hands not having his team ready to play.. Lincoln is not very good and it showed tonight. Garrard played like they knew it was for the District Championship and they just wanted it more. What is Jackson going to do now?? Blame his team or himself??? Hacker is a joke, looks good for Lincoln County.

Hacker thought he was at Mckinney gym!!!

i'm sure he knows where he is now!!!!

jackson is blaming the team, however he can't make their shots fall, if the shots had gone in, its a whole different game, missed first 11 in the fourth quarter (that's at least 22 points), please don't say the boys have no pride, they were not missing shots on purpose, just one of those bad nights and lincoln has plenty of them before!

This team lost two NAIA ball players off last years team...They are doing ok for the talent level they have.

and experience........

two naia players??? Spurlin the best player the school has had in years.

Anonymous said...

thats why spurlin is getting so many offers..Obviously you haven't watched too many NAIA basketball games..They are division 1 quality, Spurlin is a 6"4 center who needs to develop his outside game before he could ever play above D3

Anonymous said...

Lets see where he goes, Jackson will not help him.

Anonymous said...

jackson is helping him and edgington, even offered to help one in football

I'm not saying Spurlin is above NAIA. I was wondering who the two NAIA players were. I only see one kid on this team with NAIA talent.

That being said, NAIA is no where near D1 caliber. That's ridiculous. You NAIA players at the top 5-10 programs might be, but on average it's not even close. Now if you compare a NAIA player to a Micheal Porter, than yeah...

I was referring to Keeton and Young off last years team...Most NAIA schools have D1 transfers..Georgetown lost to Louisville by 5 pts this year...That sounds pretty good to me

of course Jackson will blame the team..he has never quite been a man about anything. This is where "coaching" comes in. The team he had the last two years had the talent to win with whoever had a clipboard. i'm honestly surprised he stayed at lincoln...after spurlins gone so will jackson..he'll find another school that has sufficient talent so he can act like he knows what he is talking about. P.S its not that difficult to get on an NAIA team..i know plenty of people that didn't even play high school that tried out and have made them.

the best players go to d-1 schools, no exceptions!!!!

UofL would beat them by 30 or more, in a "real" game. The talent gap is tremendous. Plus G-town falls in the upper echelon of NAIA, as I previously mentioned.

As for the comments about being a good coach, the men took 5 guards (three very average players) to the Sweet Sixteen two straight years. LC has had similar talent in the past and never got out of the district.

So when two teams play two 20 min halfs its not considered a real game?...There is separation in the talent gap, but not by as much as you think.

There are the "good" NAIA schools that give full rides, and there are the ones that have no athletic scholarships to give out..More than likely these are the ones you were referring too..People could not just go try out an make it at the big time NAIA schools

yeah lindsey wilson is one where you can try out and make it...sorry...as far as G-town playing close to UofL..thats a game where UofL puts all there players in to get time and Pitino runs free motion sets...it wouldn't be close in a real game

yeah there have been better LC teams in the past but the region has also been better

Good for LC winning the 12th the last two years, but lets be honest the 12th was not very good the last couple of years. Does anyone really think that last years team could have have beaten Keith Withrow team when he was a Sr.,or the team J. True was on as a Sr.

I thought I would let you know all about my son. Ryan did recieve a full scholarship to play basketball at Lindsey Wilson College. Ryan never had to try out only the JV players have to try out. You need to get your information straight before you start talking about someone's child. People need to be proud of what these boys done and not be so negative. Next time you say something about my son please leave your name and we can talk face to face. Paul Young

I think most are very proud of what Coach Jackson and the team has done the last few seasons. I for one, am very proud of what those seniors (on last years team) meant to the program. Good to hear that he is still playing ball and doing well, keep us updated.

Don't worry about the naysayers, there are far more who care than don't.

Try outs?..yeah right..

Anonymous said...

Yes JV players have to try out and most simply play basketball because they love the game. However, varsity players recieve tuition, room and board, meal ticket, and books to play basketball.

Just some information to think about Lindsey Wilson (Ryan Young) is ranked 16th in the Nation while Northwood University (Noah Keeton) is ranked 6th. So as you can see these two "very average" players that you are talking about have full rides to the top NAIA schools in the country. And yes there are many D1 transfers that come to the NAIA level.
