OUCH!!!

Lincoln County-0

Mercer County-47

The Pats had -41 rushing yards. That's all you need to know. LC is idle next week, then they travel to Southwestern Pulaski the following week. Hopefully better luck there. The off week will give the team some valuable practice and healing time.

That was an ugly game...Props to Wes Camel, good to see short guys ball out on the gridiron. Makes me sick that a team that can't throw the ball can beat us like that. Hopefully we will get some people healed up with the time off and maybe the boys will decide whether or not they want to go winless for the year.....

I don't think it's a question of whether or not the boys want to go winless or not. Of course, they want to win a game. How many times does a team walk onto a field or court and say "Hey, let's do all we can to get beat" That's ridiculous. I agree there is a level of determination and commitment, but let's give these boys a break. It's real easy for fans to sit in the stands and say what we think needs to happen, but the determination doesn't just rest on the boys, the coaches have to want it too. We have a great group of coaches, maybe a few too many, but still a some great coaches. Way too much pressure is put on these boys to be the team that the adults, parents and just faithful fans alike can be proud of. To hear comments like "makes me sick" well...turns my stomach a bit. It would have been good if some could have gone out and watched a few of the 3-4 hour practices that these boys have endured since June. For the most part these boys are not a bunch of quitters or boys without heart. They are out at the field as I write this working a 3 hour clinic with younger boys. Now it's not easy to get up and drag your tail out after a game like last night, but I think this shows a high level of commitment. They have stayed committed and want a win more than anyone. Maybe it's time good ole Lincoln County rallies around something other than winning and sees the big picture...boys living out their dream to play high school football for the team they've watched for years instead of just being ready to jump on a charter bus to the playoffs. I will not dispute that it is much more exciting to watch a team that is winning than to sit in the rain and watch your team get thumped, but life just isn't all about winning and sometimes some of life's greatest lessons are learned out of the winner's circle. Character is built through difficult cirumstances and it's our character that we carry throughout our lives not our athletic ability. I just hope that we as fans will stay as committed to supporting these guys as much as we expect them to stay committed to the game. Whether winning or losing I'm very proud.

I don't think anyone on the team quit last night. Mercer was just the better team, and it showed. Injuries and lack of depth are the two biggest thing hampering this team. I am a diehard fan, and will continue to support the team.

I agree with Hazmit, it is frustrating to watch a team line up and run it down your throat, when you can't do it back to them. Mercer had 4 pass attempts and completed 1 of them. As I mentioned earlier in the week, that is Marty Ball.

ProudParent, you are correct. The fans don't need to quit this team. LC has a good fan base and always had. Even during the struggles of the early 2000's there was a decent amount of fans that would come to the games. This is a good coaching staff, and will just need time to build a PROGRAM.

I am entitled to my opinion of what makes me sick, I would tell any of the players this. Although I think you mis-interpreted how I meant it. I meant that any team that is one-dimensional (running only) should not win a 5A football game in today's game. Adjustments can be made to stop a team that is running it down your throat. If we can't stop it then it's just not our night.
Ask any of the players what they learned from last night. If they say it made them a better player and made them realize they have to dig deeper when adversity stares you in the face then I'm happy. I hope that's the case because I do believe that's what helps you later on in life, not just the wins. Our kids need to learn what it takes to be a winner and they will be winners later on in life.
Any player who knows me also knows that I support them without a doubt and would help them any way possible. And I will still be there Friday night win or lose also, without any relation to any kid on the roster.

Of course, you are entitled to your opinion just as we all are. I may have misinterpreted your comment, but I do hope you can understand my point. Although we all won't always agree on the fundamental aspect, I think we can agree that we have a great group of young men on that field. Thank you for your continued support.

I do understand your point and I agree 100% that we have a great group of young men on the field. I have heard Coach Settles say it himself about this year's players. I applaud you for keeping your kid interested in sports when we have so many kids that could care less. Your point of building character should be #1 priority, but we can't get away from winning. Winning gives the team pride about what they are doing. How many kids would come out if Lincoln went winless every year? None. That was my point. We have to get back to winning ways, not that it means more than building character. Would people be as excited about basketball if we hadn't been to the sweet sixteen? No. Winning improves everyone's attitude involved with sports from fans, players, staff, and community. That's all I was trying to say. Right or wrong, if we ever get away from winning not being important, then we have lost the true reason for it being a game. I have told my son that I want him to play some type of sport in high school, simply because I do think it teaches kids things they will use later in life, i.e. team building, overcoming adversity, commitment, and leadership. But I don't expect him to care only about this, and get his teeth kicked in every game. I want him to learn what it takes to be a winner, on and off the field, period.

Who is Nick Moore? and why or how is this unknown in the MVP voting for this game?

I think Moore is a LB. #45, he had a good game on defense the other night if it is who i am thinking about

In my opinion, I think the biggest problem at this point is 1)experienced talent. 2) EXPERIENCED ANYTHING. Don't forget the group that graduated last year got thrown to the wolves when they were freshman, right wrong or whatever, that is what happened. They won a total of 10 games their freshman year ( 2 football, 6 basketball and 2 baseball ). Most of our experience coming back did not play significant roles on the team until their Junior season. Also while we were building a team last year and not worrying about the program our underclassmen played a total of 2 JV games and no freshman games, that is a recipe for disaster.

If there is one thing that I have figured out so far is the Mike Settles is the real deal, whethe you agree with his coaching staff or his number of coaches, he is inheriting a very dysfunctional situation with very little inherited help. If in 5 years we are 0-3 and not close to being competitive with Merger County then we probably need to look elsewhere, but I am excited about Settles and the program. Proud Parent is right in the fact that Lincoln Countians love to ride a winner, I can remember going to basketball games when Noah was a freshman and there may have been 1/4 of what was coming last year, but you have that elsewhere 6-6 football seasons had Boyles crowds way down the last 2 years, but they are back on the bandwagon now.

I can remember Chuck Smiths 2nd year at Boyle he won 2 games and only had about 30 kids because people complained about 3-4 hour practices and the amount of time invested into the detail of the game, but 6-7 years later they were a juggernaut and then after they won 3 or 4 rings people were right back to complaining about practicing and the hard work, kids quitting. People forget what they are working for sometimes. We need to think about what we would love to be working for

I agree with the comments about Coach Settles. We should support him because he did come into a very difficult situation. Does everyone feel like if we get our full team back from injuries we will have a huge turn-around? Complete shame about the JV and freshmen schedule last year. Sounds like somebody might have known they were leaving long before the end of the season...

We need to support Settles, his staff and the kids, his vision is to build a program, not a few good seasons here and there, he and his staff has done more work with our youth and the middle school than any other staff I can remember. This will pay off in the future. There will be no more junior classes with 6 players, etc. He and is staff are doing things the right way to build a program, be patient, with more numbers, the wins will come.

I totally agree again and especially with the fact that Coach Settles is the real deal. He really seems to care about these boys, both on and off the field. I don't dispute the fact either that everybody loves a winning team. The love of the game has to begin and be nurtured from Little League, through middle school and into high school. I'm so thankful to see our coaching staff and players alike doing that with things like the clinics they have had on 2 occassions and inviting them into the locker room last week before the game. I just hope the players don't lose heart, but it's faithful fans like the ones on here who have to keep them encouraged, along with the coaches. Of course, they have to dig deep and want it too, but with encouragment and confidence I think they can. Let me as a parent be the first to say THANKS for all the support. I have family who live in other counties and they even say "there are no fans like Lincoln County fans" and I will have to agree with that.

Coach Settles is the real deal.
I think the softmore class will be a good one. We will have a good line, good QB and our backs will keep getting better. In the JV game Monday we were running up the gut just about all night with Gram, HE WILL BE A GOOD BACK FOR US. QB Hines had a good game also.

Biggest part of the line back and a 67 point swing from the last time LC played Mercer Co!!!! You guys can not help yourselves from bashing French. Maybe your should be asking why French could never get a Coach into the Midddle School? He asked, was told it could not be done or what budget he was given for Frosh and JV games. Transportation and refs cost money. You can not lay this on French you need to look on up the food chain for answers.

Maybe with the new Super. thing will change at LC. Until then all I can say good luck Coach Settles.

Anonymous comments are always the toughest...
67 point spread = different Lincoln team from last year. Line back yes, but Lincoln lost tons of studs. We were out-matched and out-played. I don't think the score would have been much different if French or Joe Paterno would have been coaching?
If there was truly problems with budget and the middle school then those problems should have been taken to the school board. If you were in the know, were these issues addressed with the board? I personally do not know. Who did French ask? If he asked Ralston or whoever and got nothing, then that communication issue should have been brought before the board. I never heard anything until French was leaving. If there are issues, then people need to step up and do something about it. Not just sit back and complain.
I am tired of talking about French and will no longer mention his name. Personally I liked French as a coach, but I didn't like his exit strategy. We may disagree with who was to blame but I just felt like his mind was made up before all of the talk about non-support. Maybe if I had some insider info to set me straight, then I would write a public apology.
I should only be on here supporting Settles and that's what I'll do from now on. Good luck Coach Settles and the Patriots.

I agree with everything in Hazmit's post.

If you are so in love with French, head on over to Boyle County and get on that bandwagon.

"Who ya With"= No Lincoln

it will take settles time..but I think he will get it done. We as a town and school system just need to make sure we support him fully, which i think we do,and give him whatever he needs within legal limits. If he needs new equipment, get it. He needs more practice time, get it. He needs (you fill in the blank)..get it.

I'm wit you man. Get Settles what he needs....I don't care if it is illegal. Every other school is doing it.
