District Battle

This week marks the opening of district play for the Lincoln County Patriots (0-2). The Pats need a big victory to get the season on track, and this Friday, when the Pats host the Mercer County Titans (1-1), will be a perfect chance to do so.

Mercer enters the contest 1-1. They are coming off a big win against another district foe, Pulaski County, last weekend. The Titans totally dominated that game, blowing out PC 38-7. According to most, these were supposed to be the two favorites to win the district, since they both returned so many players. The final score is misleading, PC was playing without their QB (who is their best player).

Mercer County is a hard team to get a grip on. They entered the season with high expectations, returning numerous seniors from last season squad. They opened up in the Bob Allen Pig Skin Classic in Danville against Madison Central, where they got thumped 25-0 by Madison Central. They followed that up with beat down on PC. So, which is the real team? One thing we do know is they will play Jagger's ball. Run, run, run and run some more. And play hard nose defense. The old cliche, three yards and a cloud of dust applies here.

This is an important game, a win for Mercer puts them at 2-0 in the district and off to a great start for the top seed in the playoffs. A win the Pats puts them at the top, and gets them going in a positive direction. Mercer will be gunning for the Pats who beat them twice last year, including a beat-down in the playoffs.

Nothing would be better than the boys getting this first "W" for Coach Settles this Friday night in Death Valley against the Mercerburg Pioneers... I mean Scotties .... I mean Titans.

Okay folks, it looks like it's going to take Hazmit coming out of retirement to awaken the echoes of Lincoln County Football pride. I know I have been silent over the last few months but I'm back. The Patriots need some blood back in the eyes, and I'm just the person to do it. So here it goes to all of the Patriots....
Who wants to go 0-3??? Who wants to quit on Coach Settles??? Who wants to go back to those 1-9 and 2-8 seasons??? Who wants to get laughed at by Mercer, Boyle, and Danville???
Coach Settles deserves better and players should want more. We are better than 0-3. The players work too hard and the ones who wore the red and white before you worked too hard to get out of the gutter. Don't put us back there, do what it takes to keep us from going back there. This Friday night fight that were in is won with heart and desire. Who has more heart? Who has the desire to find a way to win? You can overcome talent with heart and desire, and every athlete has this inside of them. The question is will you find a way to channel your heart and desire to make you a better player? Will you dig deep to find that extra effort you need to make the tackle or break the long run. Do whatever it takes. Find a way to win, period. LINCOLN PRIDE BABY!!!!
