LC Loses Opener, 34-12

The Death Valley Bowl wasn't kind to the Pats again this year. Lincoln County really has a hard time winning this game, and their luck didn't change in the 2009 version of the PBK Bank Death Valley Bowl. The Patriots lost the home opener by a margin of 34-12 to East Jessamine.

East got the scoring started in the 1st quarter on a 41yd touchdown run by Austin Hager. The Pats did a decent job on Hager, but the other backs really hurt LC. East piled up 286 yards rushing and 307 total yards.

Lincoln County was led in rushing by junior quarterback Austin Hinds. Hinds had 15 carries for 76 yards. He added 75 more yards through the air. Including two touchdowns and one interception. Hinds has a lot of potential at QB, he just needs experience. I think he could have a big year as a dual threat QB.

The changing point in the game happened right before halftime. LC was driving down the field trailing 13-7 with under two minutes to go in the half. Hinds threw a pass in the direction of a receiver that never turned around to locate the ball. The pass was intercepted and returned inside the red zone. East went on to punch it in for a touchdown with only 8 seconds left in the half. LC went from having a chance to tie or take the lead to trailing by two touchdowns. The deficit pretty much stayed at 2 touchdowns until East scored with 44 seconds left in the game on a 1 yard run by Seth Hunt.

The Pats showed some good and some bad, but they never gave up and definitely showed their potential. I was most impressed by the offensive line. They did a great job of protecting the QB, and got a pretty good push most of the night. The line has a chance to be very good.

Here is a look at some stats:

Rushing:

Calhoun 10-29
Hinds 15-76
Graham 4-10
Carrier 4-25

Passing:

Hinds 3/13 75yds 2TD's 1 interception

Tough loss...but something to build on in my opinion. I was impressed with Hinds and Carrier to name a few. Calhoun looked explosive and fast but never got going. I thought the line showed potential also. Loved the onside kick by Cummins, it was executed perfect. Congrats to Matt Carrier who was voted MVP of the game. Good luck to the Patriots.

I think they did a good job the only thing that hurt us was penalties. We need to just dust ourselves off and get back up and have a great game Friday night! I believe in these boys and what they can do NOT what they can't do! I want to remind everyone to come out and support the freshmen Monday evening they play Garrard Co. at 6:30 at LCHS!! GO PATS!! We will have a GREAT year I know we will!!! Congrats to Matt on the MVP!!!
